Myths About Carmex
Through the years there have been many misconceptions about Carmex, none of them true. We hope to dispell many of them here...

MYTH: Carmex is addictive.

Carmex contains no addictive ingredients. "We're in full compliance with the Food and Drug Administration." states Paul Woelbing the company's controller and grandson to its founder.

MYTH: Carmex contains a terrible acid that roughs up your lips and actually makes you need more Carmex.
The only acid in Carmex is salicylic acid, which is closely related to aspirin. It serves as a pain reliever and an antiseptic. It also helps to dry cold sores.

MYTH: Carmex contains ground up fiberglass.
Again, all the ingredients in Carmex are listed on the container. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration would not allow anybody to put fiberglass in a product for medicinal use.

MYTH: Carmex causes cancer.
If there were any truth to this rumor, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would require us to discontinue the manufacture of Carmex.
